He is not saying that religion is the end all be all, it is just one component. And, the reason his is suggesting it is to cultivate social interaction, and experience "sacredness" which has largely been eliminated in the United Stated. As an atheist he also supports alternatives, such as secular organizations with rich history and tradition. Which, I suppose could be something like the military, free masons, or something. I can see it as a suggestion to some but did he offer any other suggestions? Clearly the social benefits of religion are obvious to anybody but clearly it's not for everybody.
