tech support MUST promote sales and upsells to customers on Charters demands. This is a requirement to keep your job. Charter is not concerned with assisting the customer and troubleshooting the issues they already have. Sell them something else that doesn’t work. Charter is after the almighty buck. Customer Service, be damned. Repair agents have now become the new telemarketers for Charter. two for the price of one.
Jeff, thats a shame you must live in an area where the cable system is not up to par.In Southeast CT the service is terrific, I have actually had a tech show up at my home and inform me that my cable modem was out of spec.Too many splitters caused low signal to the modem, it was on the verge of shutdown. He reconfigured the signal to the modem. Basically doing the install correctly that the contractor messed up.No charge for the call and one pleased customer. The use of outside contractors are a major problem, not only on install work, but also customer service.
Our local cable company was just bought out by Charter. I had always thought that our local cable sucked and was looking forward to a “big gun” coming in and buying our local cable company. Boy, was I wrong. They have been here for less than three months and I have been on the phone with them no less than 3 times a week and sometime more. They do not keep their word. They do not keep their scheduled appointments. They do not speak english, for the most part. They are not uniform in what they are offering. You can call every ten minutes and get a different answer to your question every ten minutes. THEY SUCK!!!!!!!
I am only 16 and my parents pay for my internet yeah i know why should i care if my parents are paying for it… because i have to suffer with horrible internet they dont no like to support wireless internet i run around 112 on speakeasy download and 437 upload and yes that is correct 112 download and 437 upload they suck dont get charter. I should have 5 megs and i have a 500$ wireless router so the router isnt the problem it is charter.
hey most complainers are noobs that dont even need to be near a computer, sure we outsource but if your patient you might a get an english speaking person who will help you, we are very competitive on pricin and most of you are whiny sobs that wouldnt pay your other bills either and complain about service when its you thats the problem
Ur a charter employee… well my problem with charter is i pay 160. a month for bundled internet cable and phone. Yeah I must be a noob cause ive been dealing with crappy service since day one. My phone and internet still dont work. Why should i pay for servics that dont work ?
Tec after tec after tec coming to my house for 5 mins and telling me it will be fine…. still crappy service.. Charter sucks ass.
Charter does suck. I’m sorry that you have to work for such a life-sucking company that preys on those who have noone looking out for their best interest. I hate corporate America, and I would shovel shit for 7$ per hour, eat Ramen noodles for every meal, and walk to work every day before I would sell my soul to work for these blood-sucking corporate monsters.
I just moved from a location that had comcast ( which was a good experience ) to an area that only offers charter ( keep in mind same modem ) more expensive and atleast 75% slower WTF Good luck with charter I think they should have competition in this area to keep these buisnesses honest and more out to serve the customer.
i got my first apartment.
called charter to get cable and internet.
cable guy comes over and installs.
i get my bill and its $127.00
i call up charter and ask why my bill is so high, and they said because of all the movie channels that i have. i said i didn’t ask for movie channels, she said why you never said you didn’t want them?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
enough said….charter sucks!
I have had a Charter account at 3 different addresses. I am currently up to date on my payments, yet, today, I received a letter from a collection agency stating that Charter has sold my account to them and that I owe $57.42. Upon calling customer service, I was told that this is an outstanding debt from over TWO YEARS ago! Each time I have moved and transferred my services, I have told the teller at the local branch that I wanted to go ahead and pay whatever I owe before closing out that account. I have been late on payments here and there, but always pay what I owe, and am currently up to date on payments right now. Customer service says that the account has been sold to the collection agency and that they cannot help me with it. I am left with no choice but to contact the collection agency to dispute this debt. I can not believe that Charter would risk losing a customer who pays them over $140 a month for services over an obviously bunk $57.42 “debt”. Anything that was owed from the old account was paid years ago, and if for some reason it was not, it should have been brought to my attention LONG before now and certainly before it was sold to a collection agency. I support a wife and a child and am barely able to pay for my services as it is. If you have ANY option other than Charter, you would be well advised to take your business elsewhere.
Be weary of Charter sneaking extra charges into your bill.
After a billing issue, which was Charter’s fault, our Charter phone service was disconnected. The service was restored after wasting several hours convincing Charter to accept a credit card payment over the phone (they wanted us to drive 40 minutes to the nearest Charter bill-payment center and pay in cash!). When the service was restored, however, we were “automatically” signed up for every conceivable extra phone service that Charter offers. We also lost our promotional rate. This was in addition to the $60 reconnect fee we were charged to get the phone service working again.
We had to waste another hour on the phone with Charter getting the extra “services” removed from the bill.
No links, no fine print, where does it say I’ll pay 40$ a month plus taxes and fees?

I have to spend 30 min on the phone with a rep so that he can come to the conclusion that there is no issue on my computer, but on Charters line, etc.
(He actually finds drops on my line. My connection cuts out regularly. So much that I can not play BF2 on line for more then a couple min. at most.)
Then I have to wait for a tech to come out.
Later, I try to get to the local charter office to ask about swapping out a modem. I get India or somewhere and the guy has no clue as to the fact that I already know I have a problem, I already know I have an appointment, but he does not understand “I would like to be put in contact with my local Rochester MN office to ask them about what I need to bring for a modem swap”.
Then today I am on the phone when Charter auto dialer calls. I switch over and say “Hello?” several times and after 15 seconds nothing. I switch back and continue my call. Then I go out and wash my vehicle. Then I come back in to find that my appt. has been canceled because they the dialer called when I was outside.
I call and tell them I am home and they now say the earliest I can get an appt is Wednesday.
If Charter can not come out and check the lines even if I don’t answer then Charter does not want my service. If Charter can not drive by to see if I am hear then Charter does not want my service.
I was comparing and looking at Quest bundles. Now the decision is easier.
Thanks for making the decision easier. Qwest never places all the responsibility on me to get service fixed.

Charter is all about the quick fix. Not the solution mind you. Just the quick fix. Just a fix to the problem at hand…being me on the phone.
At $160 a month in fees I expect them to drop by and at least check the connection into the house if they can not contact me as the guy on the phone clearly stated over and over again that the problem is not on my end but probably outside at the poll, etc.
Further, if I call back at 11:30 for a 10:00 to 12:00 service window I do not expect to be told that ya, they missed me (on the phone) and they are now booked out till Wednesday. Lame Lame Lame Lame LAME!
Quest is not better. A slower connection, but what can ya do? Direct TV is much better so that is a plus.
Be wary of Charter’s $99 triple special. After all of the access fees and taxes and everything esle that can possibly be tacked on, your total is closer to $130. That is a 30% increase over thier advertisement. Then, after the promo period ends you get the pleasure of paying almost $160 per month after all of the fees. That’s a whopping 60% increase. BTW, they also make it very inconvenient to drop services. There are no options on thier website to facilitate this process so you have to call customer service. From there, they transfer you to a “retention specialist” who does his or her best to keep you hooked. This includes offering to keep you at your promo rate, which keep in mind, is 30% higher than they advertise by the time all of the taxes & fees are included. If your rate had adjusted to standard rate, which mine did for several months, they offer to switch it back to promo for another year. The bottom line, they’ll screw you until you complain, then they’ll give you thier best deal which was a scam to begin with. Can’t win there.
Also, thier retention specialist will pretty much explain to you that they are your best friend and they are just looking out for your best interest in getting you the absolute best price. I think Satan would make a better best friend than Charter.
Wow, glad to see I’m not the only person getting screwed around by Charter. Here’s how my experience has gone (I’ve had service for only 2 weeks so far):
Day 1: Tech was sent out…absolute idiot…wanted to run the coax one of two ways, both involving running a cable across my living room floor….after a 4 hour argument between the tech and the corporate office the tech left my house (no cable run to my television and the coax for my cable modem was run to the wrong spot). So, his supervisor comes out to my house….runs a cable to my television, was supposed to run it through the wall, but apparently charter communications doesn’t provide their techs with proper equipment to install their services the correct way…after the 4 hour altercation with the first tech I was already getting sick of the company and wanted them OUT of my house…so I settled for a cable going through the floor right next to the baseboard.
Day 2: I was called by a Charter representative…he wanted to know how happy I was with the service they were providing…I was honest and told them it was a joke at this point…the consolation offered for my trouble was for me to pay an additional $10/month for a channel that I was not interested in from the beginning….how does paying $10 MORE every month for their crappy service make me feel any better??
Day 6: I received my first bill….only I had multiple charges listed for items/services that were not EVER requested nor received.
Day 8: A tech was supposed to show up today to correct the screw ups that the first tech and his supervisor made in my home…however, I was let down again….no phone call, no tech…I wasted an entire day waiting on this company to show up to fix their mistakes.
Day 12: Ok, so I still haven’t heard from Charter about correcting their wiring mistakes…and surprise, surprise, now my 20Mbps internet service is hitting 2 Mbps. So, I call and speak to David in India again…who really (obviously) could care less about my issue.
Today: Still nothing, no call backs, no apologies for the horrible service provided, and nothing done to correct the problem.
Where is the quality control at in this company!? I need a number of an American, who is not contracted labor and actually works for Charter Communications, who actually cares about how horrible their services are being provided, and can actually do something to make this right…otherwise I’m about ready to call them and let them know where they can put this modem and DVR….if I keep getting screwed around I’ll put them there on first site of a Charter employee….sideways
The truth about this matter is that the corporations (Charter, Comcast, etc.) care nothing for the average person. Anyone who dislikes the ways in which these companies hook customers, take advantage of them, and monopolize our business because there are no checks in place to make sure that we have access to any other options should place a vote for a Democrat in future elections. Regardless of your religious affiliations or income status (unless you’re a millionare whose success depends on the government condoning this type of behavior), you should vote for intervention into what so many like to call “capitalism.” These corporations have free reign in America because they can afford to pay lobbyist who make sure that bills are passes that are in the best interest of the corporation. I have been a Charter customer for more than 4 years and they could care less about the fact that I can hardly afford their services. They offer ploys (under the guise of cheap rates) which allow customers to sign up for bundle packages, then they increase the rates as soon as the promotional prices “expire”. If you do not have time to call every time your bill increases, then Charter is not the company for you. They also have a monopoly in our small town, and we have no other options. They refuse to offer competetive rates to customers unless the customer threatens to cancel the subscription, and then they only make promises that they can’t keep. It is a disgusting business practice which allows them to make million off of the customers who refuse to haggle over rates. (My mother is one of those customers who never calls; she simply pays the bill each month when it’s due). I refuse to be taken advantage of in this way, and if my bill increases to the point of going over my monthly budget amount, I will simply cancel my services. It’s time for the average American to take a stand and require that these corporation cease taking advantage of us. I’m sickened by the tactics used by large corporations to profit from our ignorance and indifference. I will vote for Obama again in the next election, and I will vote Tea Party members and other members who cannot compromise for the betterment of our nation out. It is time for change, and regardless of what anyone says, the situation that our nation is in now is a result of those who look out for the interest of big business. Our unemployment rate is also a result of catering to the concerns of big business, and for those of you who cannot recall which president allowed big businesses to seek lower wage rates by outsourcing and moving their business to other countries, I suggest you look to the last administration to find the source. These big businesses can look out for themselves, they do not need the help of politicians. We have to wake up and recognize that someone is allowing and condoning this behavior within our nation. Do some research (don’t just listen to what others tell you), and get out and vote for the person who will actually make changes that will help us (the middle class American, who must make monetary sacrifices in order to stay within budget).
CHARTER IS CRAP. ALONG WITH OTHER COMPANIES THEY SCREW THE ENTIRE COUNTRY OUT OF SERVICE, PROVIDING THE VERY MINIMUM WHILE JACKING UP THE PRICE. LOOK AT EUROPE, LOOK AT ASIA, THEY HAVE GIGABIT INTERNET, THAT’S WITH A “GIGA”. FUCKEN PIGS, FED UP OF THEM, OH AND THE BEST PART, I CAN’T CANCEL THIS SHIT BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING ELSE AVAILABLE IN THE AREA. GREAT, JUST GREAT!
Charter Communications is so dysfunctional it cannot handle a service call for two topics at the same time. Their last service to my home disabled all the phones downstairs. Then the Internet service went flaky. None of the automated solutions ever work and their phone support is incapable of helping. The onsite tech guys laugh at the info they provide which usually involves a upsell. I called today after they gave me two conflicting service time and they were a no show for both.
Charter Communication SUCKS if I could throw Charter’s Cable Box, Phone Service and Modem out the window I would. I need the high speed access for my work. God help me I am doomeded to deal with these idiots forever!!
how much does it cost to get charter just for internet? im thinking of dropping comcast.
You should only be able to get one or the other. Since they are both cable companies. Also, it is like $60 a month, I think.
Bun – yeah you can only get comcast. They literally have a monopoly on the greater grand rapids and surrounding areas.
But, my numbers for speakeasy were just this:
15,504 KBPS download / 412 KBPS upload
15 meg… seriously that is worth 60 bucks russell.
I have Comcast. Just ran it at noon on Saturday.
9398 download 415 upload.
I pay WAY to much in my opinion for this shiz. $75 for cable and internet after taxes.
Its like 60-65 after taxes if you just want internet.
KEEP Comcast !!
Charter ain’t worth crap!

Why dont you go for the triple play? Video,HSD(high speed data) and VOIP (voice over IP)all for 99 bucks! The special is now running for Charter.
Paul, I actually do have that. And I have to say with the exception of basic cable, their quality of service is aweful.
Jeff, thats a shame you must live in an area where the cable system is not up to par.In Southeast CT the service is terrific, I have actually had a tech show up at my home and inform me that my cable modem was out of spec.Too many splitters caused low signal to the modem, it was on the verge of shutdown.
