Apple Slashes Academic Discount

Ever since I got my first powerbook I have been faithfully upgrading OS X with my academic discount. It has been historically generous, giving you $50 off the bloated over charge of $129. $79 seems like a fair charge for a point release to me. Anyhow, they have slashed the discount for leopard to a mere $13. Really this is more a slap in the face than anything else. I would rather they cut the discount altogether rather than giving up a pittance.

I may be interested in the family pack idea. How does the family pack work?

  2. Jeff says:

Well, you are supposed to live with whoever else uses the license. So, you and Wes could legally split it.

I really want my own disk to be honest if you buy the *FAMILY PACK* do you get your own disk or is it just one that works on multiple computers.

Also this is total bullshit. I got the email yesterday and was just irate. Yes it’s still a lot cheaper then buying vista but still it’s such a shill move by apple. You should check at GVSU’s bookstore to see if they are going to offer it any cheaper from what I’ve been hearing some schools are selling it for $20 dollars.

    You are jja good post.

As far as I can tell the family pack is identical to the regular version. You are just “allowed” to install it on five computers.

I got Vista from GVSU for $0 thanks to MSNAA or whatever the program is named. Schools can only offer it at a discounted rate if they are a member of Apple’s academic whatever.

$122.96 after tax….not terrible but still not $79 dollars good. Asses

jja you have to check the allendale bookstore for me. I’m thinking about going to the downtown campus and checking the pricing there to see if they have it cheap. My student ID is still valid thus they will sell it for me. You should call the bookstore and ask a representative what they are selling it for

I walked into an Apple store a while ago because I wanted to inquire about student discounts, since the Apple website taunts themselves as being so student friendly.

The store clerk told me the student discount is 2%.
