Well, since it no longer seemed completely appropriate to use a snowy image for my header, therefore I decided to put more of a spring style photo up there. However, since my last header featured an outhouse, it seemed only fitting that this image contained a “Port-O-John” …attached to a tree.

Apparently, some time yesterday, vanlandw got a delightful message from Fox in the mail:

It has come to my attention that you have made an unauthorized use of our copyrighted work entitled 24 (the “Work”) in the preparation of a work derived therefrom. FOX has reserved all rights in the Work, first published in 2001, and have registered copyright therein. Your work entitled “Jack Bauer [24] Kill Count” is essentially identical to the Work and clearly used the Work as its basis. The subsequent website, “bauercount.com” contains several images, and video from several parts of the overall body of work.
As you neither asked for nor received permission to use the Work as the basis for “Jack Bauer [24] Kill Count” nor to make or distribute copies, including electronic copies, of same, we believe you have willfully infringed our rights under 17 U.S.C. Section 101 et seq. and could be liable for statutory damages as high as $150,000 as set forth in Section 504(c)(2) therein.
We demand that you immediately cease the use and distribution of all infringing works derived from the Work, and all copies, including electronic copies, of same, that you deliver to me, if applicable, all unused, undistributed copies of same, or destroy such copies immediately and that you desist from this or any other infringement of my rights in the future. If we have not received an affirmative response from you by April, 3 2006 indicating that you have fully complied with these requirements, we shall take further action against you.

This seriously made my day. We all knew that it was only a matter of time. I personally blame gorilla mask for this, back when the site had but a minor cult following it never faced these kinds of issues. Poor, bauercount.com, you were a victim of your own success!
NetFlix Hates Me
Quite apparently, NetFlix hates me. I have rated over a thousand movies, and pretty much burned through all their recommendations. For a while, my recommendations list sat there with a single entry that I really had not interest in checking out. However, recently, it has exploded with all kind of crap that I honestly have no idea why they would ever recommend it to me.
Most DVDs on the recommendation list will have a “Why was this movie recommended to you” section, that show how you rated other movies related to it. This DVD set does not, which leads me to believe that it was just randomly stuck on there somehow to annoy me.
So how, I cannot help but feel that Rusty some how had something to do this. If I get a recommendation about dogs, Alaska, or blind women I will know for certain.

Considering the fact that vanlandw.com has been down for a couple weeks now, I felt the need to once again bring the world “up to speed” on the most recent demise. By my count, this is the fourth extended drought vanlandw.com has suffered since I have been keeping track.
Apparently, the old leadman server that used to host vanlandw.com has been permanently decommissioned, and sits alone and abandoned in their “new” apartment. I guess that ultimately, the long run plan is to migrate it over to the-bob.org at some point in time. However, at the moment, based on the above chat conversation, it might just redirect to one of the worst abominations known to man: iWeb.
That’s right, he is totally abandoning his responsibilities as a webmaster, and choosing a slacker solution. Therefore, he will have fallen from our mighty ranks, sinking to the new low of fighting for table scraps with the “myspacers.”
Vanlandw.com will be missed.
