R.I.P. Vanlandw.com – Part II

RIP

Vanlandw.com; it seems as though the machine that renders forth vanlandw.com to world is yet again beyond the access of mortal man.

However, this time it was not the machine itself that threw itself on the grenade. Lest, it was the sub-par ISP that vanlandw utilizes. In the past few weeks he has suffered a few IP changes, in the past he had had a static IP (in practice, though technically dynamic). Therefore, when the IP changes, vanlandw is stolen away from the world.

Some of you may remember the defunct: vanlandw.no-ip.com, and may wonder why we cannot just use that to access the site. Well, bloxsom is configured to pull everything from vanlandw.com, rather then using relative paths, or just vanlandw.no-ip.com. Therefore, when the IP changes, everything goes to hell in a hand basket.

Anyhow, everyone head on over to http://vanlandw.com, and enjoy the server time out while you can.

UPDATE:

Apparently, vanlandw.com is back up to its former status.

The Greatest American

I don’t know if any of you have been following the Discovery series: The Greatest American, but the end result was one that I thought was rather interesting.

The series began with a collection of the 100 greatest Americans as selected by America through some kind of black box voting process. For the most part this group of 100 were completely ridiculous, having such unnotable people as John Edward, and Madonna. The show did a pretty good job of drawing conclusions from the section of people voted in. Such as American’s [unhealthy] fixation with celebrities.

Once it got to the top 25, there was a higher ratio of relevant people.

The series continued to narrow the field each work in an American Idol style voting competition. Eventually the field was narrowed to five: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, Martin Luther King Jr., and Ronald Reagan (listed in by their importance in my opinion).

Ironically, “The Greatest American” as voted by, America, was, Ronald Reagan. I have to admit that I was completely stunned. I suppose that, that says a lot about the demographic of people that watch the Discovery channel. Although, they did to a lot of media to hype the series, on many day time talk shows, and the Daily Show. Though, I highly doubt that the Daily Show’s audience voted in Reagan.

Personally, I cast my vote for Mr. George Washington. I have yet to hear a valid argument to support someone else.

How does everyone else feel about Ronald Reagan being considered, “The Greatest American.”

Grand Haven Bit . . . each

Sweet

For some reason lately I have been attending the Grand Haven beach more often than in the past. As in, the last week I went more times than I had in the previous ten years. For those keeping score at home that is four times.

As much as I hate to admit it, I do not think that I hate people as much as a used to. For those of you that do not already know this; Grand Haven is a major tourist town. The entire “downtown” area of the city is packed with meatbags between Memorial and Labor Day. Traffic is a bitch, to say the least.

I guess during my brief stent in East Lansing I mellowed to the whole traffic scene, since it took me around two hours to get anywhere, regardless of whether it was one mile or twenty. So, traffic has become less of an issue for me. Keep in mind that I am saying that now, and I am sure my opinion will change around the Coast Guard Festival. Hell, I know I am not going down there this year. Last year was pure insanity.

Another factor is that the water has been consistently warm without the blistering heat. Right now, we are experincing a tropic depression, which makes it just about unbearably humid. Fortunately, it is staying between 70 and 90F. During this period the water temperature has risen from a chilly 60 to balmy 74F.

Of course, there are plenty of bikinis strung along the shoreline. They seem to be particularly “in” this year. No complaints there. However, it is somewhat unfortunate that since the end of the High School year the beach it littered with “jail bait.”

I think I might have to whip out the old camera once the “real” tourist start rolling in towards late July.

Now, I’m sure by this point most of you have noticed the photo to the side there. Normally, when I put something in my blog I will blur out brand names and what not because I don’t like to devote my webspace to free advertising. But, I think that this idea is particularly clever. I mean honestly, aren’t girls’ asses under utilized for the purpose of advertising? That is some pretty premium advertising space.

If in the near future any of you see one of my company’s brand names plastered across some T&A you will know the root of the idea.

vanlandw.com Update

yep

Apparently, vanlandw.com is still down. So, if anyone hasn’t had a chance to put a joke about it in their blog now is the chance.

The new power supply was finally purchased for it last night, so we might see it make a triuphant return some time within the next year.

Everybody, keep crossing your fingers!

In the mean time, I am going to have to put up my own wiki, since vanlandw’s was the one I defaced constantly. I suppose now I have to scribble on my own chalkboard.

Note: This is just filler text, because the image on the side is larger than I might have wanted. You can thank p4p for it, since i stole it from his gallery. Ironically, I erased him from the photo.

RIP vanlandw.com

RIP

Apparently, the cause of death: Windows 2003 SP1.

The old beater of a Leadman that was propping up the Lemonade stand of an internet destination, vanlandw.com has finally given up on life. The machine has basically be running constantly for over year, but it is my firm belief that Windows 2003 SP1 is what killed it. I’m certain that the extra taxation on the hard disk during the install caused extra strain on the power supply thus disrupting the delicate balance. Ultimately, caused the power supply to end its own life.

I guess sometimes change is a bad thing.
