More MGS4 Disappointments

Well, it looks like Snake accidentally wondered into a PS2. Oops!

I am not completely sure why, but I guess that Hideo decided to release some horribly unready screenshots to the public. Now, if you take a look at them, it is pretty obvious that that character models are top notch, but the environments are woefully inadequate. It seriously looks like a PS2 game. However, the problem is not just very low quality textures, and the completely lack of bump mapping, etc… that is the problem. It looks as those the design of the stage is rather lack luster, I predict this game will be plagued with unrealistic ground layout and invisible walls all over the place.

It is my sincere hope that they clean up the environment quite significantly, other wise this over hyped game is going to turn out to be one of the biggest disappointments of 2007.

Utter Destruction

Death at 2547 3 Mile Rd STE C.

Today were the much awaited primary stages of vanberge’s single bachelor party.

Unfortunately, only nine of us showed up for paintball so we could not have even teams. I suppose that it worked out fine though as the pussy in the shape of a man, Tom, basically gave up after only a few rounds  .

Actually, I was kind of surprised that most of the guys kept going back to the staging or spectators area between matches. I suppose that I am just used to playing with a group that goes game after game for hours. However, since we played in larger outdoor boards, the games tended to last quite a bit longer as well.

Regardless of anyone’s perspective it was a pretty good time. Although, I’m pretty sure Payner was not too pleased when I accidentally oblittereated his manhood from a yard away :???: . Next time though, I think that we should go to an outdoor course, or one of the “urban” ones. I am pretty sure the place in Holland has an outdoor board, and I know that they have a pretty badass setup in a house, for that good old fashioned “room clearing” fun.

I am hoping that vanbergs can get his video footage of the event edited together into some kind of unholy homage to the event. I am fairly certain that there is some serious footage of sheer oblitteration.

Centuries after our forefathers raped the natives of their land, they have returned to rape our wallets.

Against my better judgment I decided to follow the party to the Casino. Unfortunately, my timing for the event was a little off. Since the van-van was only on 131 when I was in Mt. Pleasant, I decided to grab something to eat since I hadn’t had anything since breakfast. So, I snagged a couple pizzas that I shared with my dad and brother. I sat down to start watching the Notre Dame v. MSU game when vanlandw called to let me know that they were on the way to the Casino. However, I did not have my phone on me at the time, but I got the message not too long after he called. So, I pried myself away from the game to head to the Casino. I probably should have just stayed until halftime.

When I got the casino, I could not get a hold of anyone, because the ringers were pathetically inferior to the wall of sound that was boxed up inside the cesspool of debatchery. Eventually I caught up with them at the line for the buffet. I poorly timed my arrival as they were getting ready to eat. Unfortunately, I had just stuffed myself before going so the very thought of the buffet made my stomach turn. So, I found myself waiting them eat for a prolonged period of time while they betrated people, discussed food and bowel movements.

Eventually, a hour and half later they finished their meal and returned to the casino floor. After squirrelling around the slots for a while we finally set down at the 50-cent slots for a little while. vanbergs looked on, because he had already blown his load. The same fate would have waited for vanberge had a couple of the others contributed to the vanberge “flash in the pan” gambling style. I think the experience prove indicative of the “dutch legacy” or thrift. As all those who bore the burden of “van-names” completely obliterated all the money they put down.

I think that it if you figure in what flo and Tom won, everything broke out approximately even. But, that is just a rough guess.

Regardless of anything that happened today, I am very grateful to have a relatives house to stay at this evening so I did not have to go back to the hotel for some “just friends” spooning. .

Black Dahlia (2006)

They say that sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction, well hollywood doesn’t think so.

This big screen redention of the Black Dahlia tale is apparently an adaptation of the James Ellroy’s novel by the same name.

Before this film came about, I had never heard about the Black Dahlia case and the shroud of mystery surrounding it. I also did not read anything about it until after I saw the movie, because I did not want to go in tainted.

Well, based on what I have read now I find the actually story of the movie to be of greater interest, since the two do not really fit together in anyway. From what I have quickly gather based on a little research, the only thing that links this film and the actual event was that there was a person that was labelled the Black Dahlia by the press when she was murdered in the way indicated by the film. From there they begin to take creative liberties.

An interesting note about the film is that it is called the Black Dahlia, but really does not have a whole lot to do with it. It basically follows the life of one of the detectives that was investing the case among other things. In many ways it is an overly complex mess, but I am not sure that is because the story is bad itself, or it was just bad acting.

Now, I know that Harnett is a bad actor, and he gave a stilted performance as was to be expected. Actually, I suppose Eckhart did a pretty decent job, despite the bizzare behavior of his character. The disappointment was with Johansson and Swank. Those two actresses have at least proved themselves to be relatively competent. But, in this film they seemed like they had no idea what they were doing, granted the dialog written for them was nothing special. I don’t know, maybe it was just the direction.

On some what of a bizzare note, Mia did a pretty good job portraying Elizabeth Short in some casting films collected by the LAPD in the film. It is kind of funny that Mia is in fact quite a bit better looking than the original Black Dahlia, but that’s not really a problem.

But, still, the movie is basically a total fabrication. Well, at least from what I have pieced together in the last hour. There are numerous sources of information about it on the internet that you can check out if you are interested in the matter including the FBI documents released thanks to the freedom of information act.

And, of course, the wikipedia entry

Now, I bet at this point you think that I did not like the film, right? Well, that is not the case as it was actually pretty good. I have always found the fall to be a slow season for films, so this one is a pleasant gem in the sea of blah.

Thus, I suppose that I would classify this film as a recommendation, because there is not a lot better playing in theaters right now.
