Death from Above

Hell hath no fury like a Michigan Winter.

Today has been utterly miserable. I was headed to work, made it to the intersection, and then turned around to go home. Turns out this was a good decision, because within the four hours I would have been there, twelve inches of snow accumulated.

My brother and I spent a couple hours this evening performing snow removal. It is clearly apparent that Granholm’s “screw the road commission we need new plates” policy has affected the plow budget.

Robbins road is a fairly major road for the township, and it only got plowed once today. As of 10 PM (the last time I was out there, there were eight inches of standing snow on the road. It is just ridiculous.

Michigan sucks ass.

Was the Empire Really Evil?

Now, I make no claim to be a Star Wars expert. I have seen the movies, but I have not studied them, or any other related material. But, I have found myself wondering whether or not the Empire itself was exactly evil.

Based on what I know about it, the Empire is controlled by a couple of sith lords, or something like that. Evil guys. And, in one of the movies, they blew up a planet as a show of force. However, I do not think that they really showed them doing anything that you might consider to be evil behavior in general.

Things that I would classify as evil empire behavior would be, communism, genocide, stripping away personal freedoms, bad trade policies, centralist economy, etc…

Now, from what I have seen, they appear to have unrestricted trade throughout the galaxy. Just think of the people that were employed just to build the Death Star. Assuming they did not use slave labor, which they never mentioned.

Additionally, the republic seemed to be falling apart in the first few movies. So, it seems to me as though the Empire brought some much needed stability into the region.

Granted, I may have no idea what I am talking about, but there are a few thoughts for your to mull over.

WordPress Upgrade

Well, I decided not to ditch WordPress for they.misled.us yet. Setting up drupal for jjafuller.com is enough to wet my appetite for now.

Anyway, I finally got around to writing the .htaccess script to redirect to a subdirectory for wp, this way I won’t have to sort out all the wp files every time I want to upgrade. Now, it is just a matter of dump one directory and uploading another.

So far, wordpress 2.1 seems identical to 2.0.4, and I haven’t bothered to read the release notes, nor do I intend to.

If anyone is interested in setting up wordpress in a subdirectory, let me know and I’ll hook you up.

Quest for the Holy Grail

The holy grail of image galleries that is. Flo and I have decided that all the photo galleries presently available on the Internet suck, fiercely. So, I have decided that when I get the time, I will just make my own “perfect” solution. This is where the rest of you come in.

I need to figure out what the ideal image gallery looks like, what can it do, how do it function, etc… If we can actually get a realistic production specification together this project might actually work.

So, any that has any good ideas, comments, or whatever, please drop a line in the Pictura section of the forums on my home site, jjafuller.com.

Top 5 Bauer Exterminations

Considering that fact that I have been spending a majority of my limited free time tweaking bauercount.com so that it does not obliterate my host (I am going to run out of bandwidth quite quickly I fear…). Anyway, Wes made a top five, so I will follow suit. This will be a quick list though, since I am quickly writing this up before bed.

Alright, this season has turn my list upside down, shoving off two that I had picked earlier to be replaced. Anyway, here it is:

5. Season 4 (37) – Nicole

Nicole was a pretty hot chick, but that is not why this kill matters. The reason that this kill is so epic as to make the top five is because Jack shot the bitch through drywall without hesitation. It has always annoyed me that people in TV and movies are always to use walls, couches, and such as bulletproof cover. Or, at least they treat it that way. I was elated when Jack did not partake in a peekaboo match, instead just blowing the bitch away.

4. Season 6 (1) – Vampiric Delight

So, this kill was supposed to be a poor corel soldier getting obliterated by a flare, but this kill takes the cake. If anyone ever questions the brutal drive to survive of Jack Bauer, they should watch this clip at least twice. He not only ripped out another man’s jugular, but he bit so hard that the man instantly went into shock before fighting back at all.

3. Season 6 (2) – Black Tony

My original intention was to put Chapelle here, but the Curtis execution tops it, maybe not by a landslide, but enough. The entire sequence was amazing, and surreal. The music was epic, as was Jack’s reaction. Really, nothing about it was not awesome.

2. Season 1 (7) – Ira Gaines

Technically speaking, this should probably be my number one. This kill is basically perfect. Granted the finally shot is nothing special, just business as usual. But, the build up to the killing blow is what makes it great. In fact the sequence is so long that it was originally cut into two segments.

1. Season 4 (42) – Paul Raines

This kill is number one if for no other reason than to piss people off. Paul Raines was a noob, his actions made no sense. He was tortured by Jack, and then he took a bullet for Jack, and Jack repaid him by withholding medical treatment.
