Windows 7 – Take 2

Alright, so after experiencing a few issues with the Windows 7 beta running under vmware fusion (it worked pretty well, but I thought it could be better) I decided to install it on my aging inspiron 5160. I had been meaning to wipe this machine for a while, so this was a good time to try out a temporary operating system.

Thus far, it seems to be working quite well. I was surprised to see that it supposed the wireless card automatically, and that is a rarity. At the moment I am trying to download some drives from nvideo to in order to get my display resolution up to where its supposed to be. The generic driver it assigned to the card only goes up to 1280×1028.

Everything seems a lot more stable running directly on hardware rather than emulation. I think I’ll try it for a while more tonight to get a better impression.

By the way, the biggest thing I have noticed about windows 7 is that it feels alot faster than vista. I know for sure now that I have it one this machine, which was running vista pro before.

Update: I was able to get an ancient windows 2000/xp drive to work for my graphic card. So that’s pretty sweet. And, I just checked my resource usage. Apparently, booted to the desktop with only windows running it is using 362mb of ram, not to bad at all.

Tony Sucks

Anyone that knows me, knows that I think bringing back Tony on 24 is the worst decision they have ever made. And, not surprisingly they completely brushed it off in their explanation on the show. What a joke.

Grrr…

Update: It can be worse, much worse. They could make Tony an uncover agent, thus making him immune to Jack. And, the only redemption factor I can think of would be to have Jack off Tony during the season.

From the Frying Pan to the Field

Well, it looks like 24 didn’t open the way I had hoped. Ideally, they would have extended the Q&A with with the congressional review panel, and really dug down into the crux of the issue. Instead, we get a couple of questions and a verbal smack down issued by Bauer. Within moments the questioning is interrupted by an FBI agent and Jack Bauer is once again “in play.”

Oh well, I suppose that it isn’t really that surprising. Ever since 24 changed format to the 4 hour premiere, they have done a lot of action and view little setup, followed by a lot of setup and very little action.

Great Weekend to be a Bird!

Apparently, all the nfl teams with bird mascots won this weekend. Unfortunately, I loath all thoughts teams (well maybe not the Cards).

Windows 7

I finally was able to get a copy of the Windows 7 beta (with key). I’ve installed it in vmware fusion to get it a spin. After playing with it for a little while here are some observations:

  • Appears to be more stable than vista
  • Has a more consistent look than vista
  • Loosy goosy interface isn’t as good as windows 2000.
  • Seems to be a bit faster than vista
  • IE8 renders this site correctly
  • IE8 is very unstable (tabs crashed and reloaded about ever 15 seconds and it kept “not responding”)
